About Us

If you are a baton twirler and you have enjoyed the performance and competition aspects of your sport, then there is no reason that high school graduation should make you stop doing what you love. There are many opportunities for baton twirlers at universities across the country. Many have teams called majorette or twirling lines, and some have feature positions for individual twirlers. The history and tradition of Purdue twirlers is so great that we have been dubbed as the “cradle of twirlers” and have attracted talent from across the country since the 1950s. The Golden Girl feature position is one of the most well-known positions in the country and is accompanied at Purdue by the Girl-in-Black and the Silver Twins.

The Purdue twirlers perform as part of the “All-American" Marching Band and are featured at performances along with the Golduster Dance Team and the Golden Silks Color Guard. Performances include, but are not limited to, all home football games, postseason bowl games, select men’s and women’s basketball games, Indiana Pacers basketball games, the Indianapolis 500, and several campus and community functions throughout the school year. In addition, the twirlers participate in various college-level competitions.

Purdue offers two solo twirling positions with the Golden Girl and Girl-in-Black. Expectations for the soloists include advanced twirling skills, advanced body technique, multiple baton work, stylistic choreography, excellent presentation, and effective communication skills. We also have the only featured duet twirling position in the country with the Silver Twins. Expectations for the duet position include performance uniformity, creativity, versatility with choreography, excellent presentation, and effective communication skills. Due to the unique nature of this position, biological twins who are qualified performers are preferred. The Golden Girl, Girl-in-Black, and Silver Twins are selected through an open audition each spring.

Performing is very exciting at the college level. Each week brings new opportunities to share talents at the local and national levels. As part of the Purdue "All-American" Marching Band, you enter college with 300 friends, and you earn academic credit for doing what you love to do!
